The University of Alaska Fairbanks is sponsoring UAF Day at the Tanana Valley State Fair on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

The day will include numerous UAF activities throughout the fairgrounds. Visitors will have an opportunity to take their picture with UAF’s mascot, Nook, check out the University Fire Department ladder truck, see drones from UAF's Alaska Center for Unmanned Aircraft Systems Integration, and look at the latest publications from UA Press. UAF employees, students, alumni and friends will receive $1 off admission by wearing UAF apparel or showing their Polar Express card.

UAF also will have several booths at the Borealis Pavilion, featuring UAF Community and Technical College class schedules, applications and a selfie station. More than 125 free UAF Cooperative Extension Service publications will be available on gardening, energy, food preparation and more.

Cooperative Extension will host several 4-H activities on UAF Day, such as a horse show (8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Horse Arena), rabbit and cavy showmanship (noon to 3 p.m., Golden Wheels Show Arena), poultry showmanship (3-7 p.m., Golden Wheels Show Arena) and market poultry and rabbit show (7:30-9 p.m., Golden Wheels Show Arena).

Many other 4-H events will be held throughout the week, including a large-animal livestock showmanship demonstration (4-7 p.m. Aug. 3, Rotary Show Arena), market livestock show (6 p.m. Aug. 4, Rotary Show Arena), horse show (8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 5-8, Carol Phillips Arena), and market livestock auction (6-10 p.m. Aug. 9, Rotary Show Arena). A full schedule is available at www.tvsfa.org/events.

The UAF Alumni Association will offer a food booth throughout the fair near the midway, where alumni will make burgers and other treats. Proceeds from the booth fund UAF student scholarships.
