The University of Alaska Fairbanks will host UAF Day at the Tanana Valley State Fair Tuesday, Aug. 3.

UAF employees, students, alumni and friends will receive $1 off admission by wearing UAF apparel or showing their Polar Express card.

The day will include UAF activities throughout the fairgrounds.

From noon to 7 p.m. in Totem Square, visitors will have an opportunity to take their picture with UAF’s mascot, decorate their own paper bear and shop for UAF gear at the UAF Bookstore. The University Fire Department ladder truck and giant inflatable Nanook will be set up in the square.

UAF also will have several booths at the Borealis Pavilion. Visitors can learn about applying to UAF, try on a career with the UAF Community and Technical College, learn about 3D printing, design a new forest product to take home and get their own stories from the Cubear short story dispenser. More than 125 free UAF Cooperative Extension Service publications will also be available, covering gardening, energy, food preparation and more.

Cooperative Extension will host several 4-H activities on UAF Day, such as a horse show, rabbit and cavy showmanship event, poultry showmanship event, and market poultry and rabbit show.
