UAF community safety officer program ended June 30

University Relations

The UAF Police Department's community safety officer program ended June 30 in response to state funding reductions.

The department operated the student-employee program for many years. It provided:

  • security patrols

  • security escort services

  • building unlock and lock services

  • car and building lock-out assistance

Occupants now will unlock and lock their buildings in the mornings and evenings and will watch for unauthorized users. To the extent feasible, additional electronic security will be added to buildings.

The Police Department also has eliminated one of its 10 officer positions, but it will continue to have at least one officer on duty seven days per week and will continue to patrol regularly and provide security escort services (albeit with slower response times).

If you see something suspicious, please report it to the Police Department using 7721 for non-emergencies and 911 for emergencies.
