Local coffee roasters will show off their specialty brews at the 2013 Roast and Boast Friday, Nov. 22 from 4-6 p.m. at Northrim Bank’s Fairbanks Branch located at 360 Merhar Avenue.

For the second year, the University of Alaska Fairbanks School of Management has partnered with Northrim Bank to host this community event, which features music, food and plenty of hot beverages. Four coffee roasters will showcase their wares at the event: Alaska Coffee Roasting Company, Diving Duck, McCafferty’s Coffee House and North Pole Roasting Company. Additionally, Great Harvest Bread Company, Gulliver’s Books and Take 5 Café and Bakery have donated gift certificates and baked goods for door prizes. The grand prize is a Viper auto-start from Street Sounds.

Students in the UAF Principles of Marketing class helped organize and market this event, gaining organizational management, budgeting, team building and event-planning experience.

“The Northrim Roast and Boast project is giving me hands-on experience I cannot get in the classroom,” says third-year business administration student James Martin. “We are getting the opportunity to partner with several businesses and the community while learning how marketing works in a real-world setting.”
