University of Alaska Fairbanks Chancellor Brian Rogers will address the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce at its monthly general membership meeting, Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, at noon at the Carlson Center.

Rogers’ presentation will highlight recent accomplishments, including the passage of bond funding for the Life Sciences Classroom and Laboratory Facility. Construction work on the new facility is slated to begin this spring. Rogers will give an update on the accreditation process and will speak about this year’s proposed budget. He will touch on how UAF can change to meet the needs of today’s students, as well as expectations and needs of the community and the state, particularly in the areas of research and economic development.

Rogers was named interim chancellor in July 2008 and has been permanent chancellor since May 2009. A longtime Fairbanks resident and state leader, he served for seven years as the UA system’s finance vice president, four years in the Alaska State House and eight years as a member of the UA Board of Regents, with three of those years as chairman.
