U-Pass is a collaborative program, which began in 2009 with the Fairbanks North Star Borough. The program provides students, faculty and staff with the opportunity to ride the mass transit system at no charge with a PolarExpress card. U-Pass ridership for 2010 was 106,442 rides, an increase of 2.3 percent from 2009. On the Fairbanks campus, UAF shuttles tallied record ridership in the last week of November, and ridership for the semester is up 18 percent over last year.
