Theatre UAF will present “The Ash Girl,” Timberlake Wertenbaker's contemporary retelling of the Cinderella tale, in the Salisbury Theatre from April 17-26.

Brian Cook, assistant professor of theatre and directing at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, directs the play.

"The Ash Girl" begins in an old house where Ashgirl huddles deep in the protection of an ashy hearth. With her mother dead and her father away, she lives with her clueless stepmother and cruel stepsisters. When an invitation to a ball arrives from the prince, Ashgirl finds the strength to go with the help of her friends, some of whom come from unexpected places. This production features helpful and sinful characters, magic spells, fantastic costumes, and moving video projections.

The Lee H. Salisbury Theatre is located in the Fine Arts Complex on the Fairbanks campus. Performances will be April 17, 18, 24 and 25 at 7:30 p.m. and April 26 at 2 p.m. Tickets purchased in advance online at www.uaf.edu/theatrefilm are $8 for students, $12 for seniors, military and UAF employees, and $16 for adults. Tickets are also available by calling the box office at 907-474-7751. Tickets are an additional $2 if purchased at the door.
