Teaching Tip: Creating significant learning experiences

Do we design for lofty learning outcomes, or do we merely hope for them? Many of us hope our students become better at learning how to learn and become self-directed learners, but few of us identify these outcomes as specific goals and even fewer design to achieve them. Dee Fink’s taxonomy of significant learning (2003) presents a holistic taxonomy of learning experiences and reminds us to include such aspects as the human dimension and caring.
