Supporting the Heart Walk

From UAF Chancellor Dana Thomas

One of the causes UAF has generously supported over the years is the American Heart Association’s annual Heart Walk. More than 2,000 people take part in this walk in Fairbanks, so it is an opportunity to demonstrate UAF’s community connection.

Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of Americans and affects the lives of many of our employees and students. This is very personal for me because both of my parents died of heart attacks. I encourage the UAF community to join me in supporting the Heart Walk again this year.

Please consider being a leader by organizing a walking team or join an existing team. Alternatively, you can make a donation or volunteer in a manner that is meaningful to you. Philanthropy is a very personal choice, so if you have another cause that you prefer to support, I understand that and encourage you to act on those choices. One of my choices is the Heart Association.

I would like to thank Doug Schrage for once again volunteering to be UAF’s team captain and all of you who are actively putting your own Heart Walk teams together. If you would like to be a team leader or join a team now, it’s not too late! You can still sign up here.

Thank you for your continued support. Together we can make a difference.
