Student veteran James Gilchrest, who advocates for veterans on campus, was accepted into the Student Veterans of America’s Leadership Institute in Washington, D.C. The immersion program takes place Sept. 20-23, and is open to just 100 student veterans who are SVA chapter officers.

Gilchrest is a graduate student in the School of Management, where he studies security and disaster management. He is an Army veteran and is currently serving in the Alaska Air National Guard. He is the UAF SVA president and is undertaking a VA work study in the UAF Department of Military and Veterans Services.
