Student spring award nominations sought

Nominations are sought for the Marion Frances Boswell Award, the Joel Wiegert Award and the Gray S. Tilly Memorial Award, all of which recognize outstanding UAF graduates each year.

Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to submit nominations. Nominations are accepted online at www.uaf.edu/studentawards. The deadline for submissions is Feb. 13.

The criteria used by the awards selection committee are:

Gray S. Tilly Memorial Award
Nominees must be graduating seniors whose path to a degree was nontraditional, having been perhaps delayed or interrupted by family responsibilities or financial hardships. The minimum cumulative GPA is a 3.0 for this award.

Boswell and Wiegert awards
The Boswell award recognizes an outstanding senior woman, while the Weigert award recognizes an outstanding senior man. Nominees must have accumulated a minimum of 30 semester credit hours at the University of Alaska Fairbanks by May 2017. Nominees must receive a baccalaureate degree during the 2016-2017 academic year. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 is required for these awards.

Other considerations for all awards include the nominee's character, personality, scholarship, participation in extracurricular activities and contributions to the university and Fairbanks communities.
