University Relations

Dear students:

The Office of the Bursar welcomes you to the new school year. Here's some information with all Fairbanks campus commuters to help make parking easier for everyone. We'd also like to explain recent changes to parking and the new options to pay for parking

There are multiple parking kiosks where you can buy parking passes throughout the Fairbanks campus. These kiosks integrate online payments, debit and credit cards, and coins to ensure that everyone has access to UAF facilities. You can purchase a parking pass for regular decal-required lots up to a month at a time. The passes purchased at kiosks in regular decal-required lots, such as Nenana, do not permit parking in the pay-by-plate lots such as South Eielson or Signers' Hall.

You can buy permits for the South Eielson and Signers' Hall pay-by-plate lots from the kiosk at the northwest corner of the Bunnell Building or online at https://ppprk.com/park/. These lots have a three-hour limit. If you need more time, please park in a decal-required lot and take one of the many shuttles.

Gold decal lots are reserved for active gold decal owners. Parking in these lots is strictly enforced.

Meters are still used throughout campus in areas generally requiring parking for less than two hours. Please note that pay-by-plate does not cover meters unless they are specifically marked as handicap spaces. Once the time limit expires, additional payment is required as your decal is not a substitute this payment.

Did you know? Revenue from parking passes, temporary permits, citations and meters helps fund the upkeep of parking on campus, including keeping the lots clear of snow and properly maintained year round, providing electricity to head bolt plugs, and allowing students, faculty and staff to ride the borough bus for free with their PolarExpress card. Parking Services also provides free vehicle unlocks and jump starts to help keep you on the move!

If you have questions, suggestions or concerns, please email parking services at uaf-bursar@alaska.edu with "Parking" in the subject line, or stop by the Bursar’s Office Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Below are some frequently asked questions to help address common parking questions that you may have. We wish you the best this fall, and Go Nooks!

  1. Can I use the pay-by-plate system to park in a metered space? A: No, pay-by-plate is not a meter substitution. If you park in a metered space, the meter must be paid.

  1. Can I park in a meter or pay-by-plate parking space with a decal or temporary pass? A: No, decals and temporary parking passes do not permit free parking in pay-by-plate or meter.

  1. Can I park in the gold lots before 7 a.m., after 5 p.m., or on weekends? A: Gold lots are strictly enforced Monday-Friday from 7 a.m.-5 p.m., but are available to everyone nights and weekends!

  1. How do I get a gold decal? A: Anyone can buy a gold decal. To buy a gold decal or be added to a waitlist, visit Parking Services and select "Manage parking online."

  1. Can I be ticketed for parking out of the lines, sideways, etc.? A: Yes. To maximize everyone's ability to park in a lot, we ask that you ensure your vehicle is parked straight  and between the lines. We understand that winter snowfall can cover the lines, but when they lines are visible, please park within the designated spaces.

  1. Can I park in reserved or facilities spaces at the SRC/Patty gym after hours? No, Facilities Services and authorized only spots are not available to students, staff or faculty on weekends or after. Facilities Services, CSO, and police and fire vehicles need access to these spaces 24 hours a day.
