Student orientation moves; events coordination gets review

August 4, 2015

New Student Orientation moved from Wood Center to the Office of Admissions and the Registrar on July 1. By aligning orientation with admissions, new UAF students will benefit from a comprehensive, student-centered enrollment cycle. Combining efforts and eliminating duplication will also support UAF's overall recruitment and retention initiatives.

Ronnie Houchin, New Student Orientation coordinator, will join OAR. In addition to orientation, Ronnie will assume responsibility for Inside Out and redesign the programming of all admission events and visits. He will also work to combine the Orientation Leader and Student Ambassador programs.

Houchin's relationships with Wood Center staff will set the stage for more collaboration and strengthen the overall student experience at UAF.

Please contact Ali Knabe or Mary Kreta regarding the change.

Institutional events, under Marketing and Communications, is currently undergoing a process improvement review. Carla Browning, communications manager, has been overseeing institutional events since July 2014 and is temporarily assuming coordinating duties as the recruitment for an events coordinator moves through the process.

If you need advice about planning an event, please visit the marketing website or contact Carla Browning. If you have suggestions for the events process improvement, please contact Ali Knabe or Michelle Renfrew.
