The Student Health and Counseling Center has recently arranged with a service to assist students with urgent after-hours mental health needs. The service, called ProtoCall, is staffed by trained professional counselors with at least a master's level education in a counseling-related field.

The ProtoCall counselors are available outside the center's operating hours ( Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., during the academic year and Monday–Thursday, 8 a.m.–1 p.m., during the summer).

Please direct any distressed students who could benefit from immediate counseling after operating hours to call the clinic phone number, 474-7043. They will be connected to ProtoCall. The students will receive phone consultations with the ProtoCall staff, who will then coordinate with the center to ensure follow-up. Staff and faculty can also call this number to obtain advice about how to handle students in distress.

Please note that this service is limited to students and those with concerns about students. If staff and faculty require urgent counseling services, they should contact community resources or the University of Alaska's Employee Assistance Program.
