While many things have changed at UAF, the Student Health and Counseling Center continues to provide many of the same services.

To help limit the spread of COVID-19, please call to schedule services or ask questions rather than walk in to the clinic.

Mental health services are offered through telehealth in either a secure phone or secure video format. The student health center fee covers six sessions per semester with a variety of counseling services, including:

Telehealth check-ins: We recommend our check-ins for times when you feel you could use a little support, want to learn about skills you can use to maintain or improve your mental health, or you aren’t sure if you’re coping well and could use a professional perspective.
Individual therapy services: Therapy will vary in frequency and length depending upon your needs. Your health center fee pre-pays for 6 sessions, after which your counselor will discuss the $25/session fee and your ability to pay. We reserve same-day appointments for crisis situations only to ensure we can meet that need.
Couples therapy services: Couples therapy is used to address relationship issues, rather than individual concerns. One partner must be an eligible UAF student to receive these services.
Mental health outreach: We strongly encourage staff, faculty, and student organizations to consult with us any time they intend to address mental health topics within campus publications or events. Our counseling staff all have advanced training that allows us to provide accurate, comprehensive, and evidence-based information regarding mental health.
Consultation hour: Students, staff, faculty and parents can consult with our counselors about mental health questions and concerns.
After-hours crisis care: When the counseling center isn’t open, you can call the regular office number at 474-7043 and follow a series of prompts to speak to a counselor to get help during a crisis.

Our current hours of operation for the semester are:

Monday: 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
Tuesday: 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
Wednesday: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Thursday: 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
Friday: 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.

We look forward to continuing to provide support for Nanook Nation!

Editor's note: This article was updated from its original Aug. 18 publication to include six sessions per semester.
