Seventh-ranked Nanooks host No. 20 UTEP Miners Saturday

The seventh-ranked Alaska Nanooks rifle team hosts the 20th-ranked University of Texas El Paso Miners for their first home match of the season this Saturday, Nov. 3 beginning at 8 a.m. AKDT on the E. F. Horton Rifle Range.

The teams will compete over the course of three relays, which are set to begin at 8 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. During each relay the range will be divided with some shooters competeing in smallbore simultaneously side-by-side with others shooting in air rifle.

At the end of the day, the teams wll participate in some fan and spectator friendly competitions, including an eight-person 10 shot air rifle final at 4 p.m. AKDT.

Saturday's events will mark the Nanooks first match in almost a month as they last competed on October 7 against Nebraska. Alaska opened the 2012-13 season on a winning note, beating South Carolina State 4622-2599 in their season opener at Nebraska on Oct. 5. They tied the host Cornhuskers on Oct. 7, with matching 4,641 aggregate team scores but lost out on the tie-breaker for the most center shots, 255-249.

Following this weekend's match, the Nanooks will be back in action on their home range in two weeks, when they host the current No. 1 West Virginia for a pair of matches on Nov. 17-18.
