Alaska Swimming head coach Scott Lemley announced that Sarit Gluz has been selected as the program's new assistant coach.

A native of Eugene, Oregon, Gluz has coaching experience at the high school, masters and collegiate level, which includes a recruiting role for her alma mater Lewis & Clark College (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) in her home state.

In addition, she has international coaching experience with a season under her belt at the club level in Oviedo, Spain this past year, while serving as Language and Cultural Ambassador for the Spanish Ministry of Education.

“We couldn't be happier to welcome Sarit to our program,” said Lemley. “She was one of the most highly qualified of the two dozen or so applicants for the position, and she was THE most enthusiastic of our top candidates.”

At Alaska, Gluz will assist with all areas of the Nanooks' swim program, including training sessions, team travel and recruiting.

She served as the West Linn High School assistant swim coach for the 2009-10 school year. She simultaneously held the lead role as Head Masters Swim Coach for the Mittleman Jewish Community Center, where she had been a swim instructor and lifeguard since 2008.

“Sarit comes very highly recommended by three former coaches who all made glowing comments about her 'take charge' attitude. 'Mature beyond her years' and 'highly organized' were also comments I heard from people who know her well. “

“She's ready to start helping me out even as she packs up her belongings and ties up the loose ends back in Eugene. She and I will be going over tasks which need to be taken care of long before our season starts in late August like ordering suits and equipment and choosing a team captain. “

The 2009 grad of Lewis & Clark College, was a member of the Pioneers squad that visited the Golden Heart City in the fall of 2008 to compete against the Nanooks twice and then hosted the Blue and Gold in Portland in January of 2009.

“Sarit was swimming for Lewis & Clark when they came up to compete against us several years ago so she actually has a bit of experience already with our pool and our town,” Lemley added.

A Hispanic Studies major, Gluz has managed students and student-athletes previously in her positions as the Intramurals Assistant Coordinator for Oregon Health and Sciences University (2008-10) and the Lewis & Clark Athletic Facility Supervisor (2008-09).

Gluz fills the position left vacant by alumna Kinsey (Laine) Apperson, who spent the 2011-12 season with the Nanooks before moving to Anchorage with her new husband in support of his job at Siemens in mid-May.
