Cooperative Extension Service energy specialist Art Nash will give three radon presentations in Fairbanks and North Pole during January, which is National Radon Action Month.

Radon, a colorless, odorless gas, is the second-leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. It has been detected in a number of Fairbanks homes at levels the Environmental Protection Agency considers unsafe.

Nash will talk about where radon comes from, how to detect it and how to take care of it, if found. The one-hour presentations will begin at noon Jan. 8 at North Pole City Hall, at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 15 at Schaible Auditorium on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus and at noon Jan. 29 at the Noel Wien Library. For more information, contact Nash at 474-6366 or at alnashjr@alaska.edu.
