Prospecting class offered in Palmer

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Mining Extension Program will offer a basic prospecting class May 10 in Palmer.

The workshop will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Kerttula Hall on the Matanuska Experiment Farm.

Instructor Dave Wright has lived and prospected in the Interior since the early 1970, mostly in the Goodpaster and Richardson districts, and he has experience with locating, developing and promoting mining properties. The workshop will cover ore material testing and identification, different types of geological maps, staking a claim, prospecting tools and equipment, geochemical sampling methods, gold panning and sluicing, and an overview of rock and mineral deposits.
