Be prepared for earthquakes

October 21, 2014

University Relations

Monday's earthquake had a preliminary magnitude of 5.0 and was centered 44 miles northwest of Fairbanks. The earthquake was felt across UAF, though no damage or injuries were reported.

The quake served as a reminder to review what to do when an earthquake occurs. Remember to "drop, cover and hold." Drop under something substantial, such as a desk or table. Cover your head and body with something. Hold on tight.

For more information, please feel free to contact University Fire Department Chief Doug Schrage or any of the staff at the university fire, police or safety departments.
