The University Fire Department and the University of Alaska Fairbanks Police Department will stage a two-part live demonstration Wednesday and Thursday of this week to illustrate the dangers of drunken driving.

On Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. on the south side of Rasmuson Library, the departments will simulate an auto accident. Emergency providers will respond and there will be actors in full makeup and costume playing the people involved in the accident.

On Thursday, from 1-2 p.m. in Constitution Park between the Gruening Building and Constitution Hall, the departments will host a mock funeral for “victims” of the simulated accident.

The public is invited to observe both events, which are modeled after the national “Every 15 Minutes” program, http://www.every15minutes.com/. The demonstration is designed to be an educational experience that allows observers to see first-hand the effects of impaired driving.
