A March 13 conference in Anchorage will offer pesticide applicators the opportunity to work toward renewing their certification.

The 2012 Alaska Certified Pesticide Applicator Conference will take place at the Coast International Inn from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Pesticide applicators must be certified by the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation. The state requires pesticide applicator certification for anyone who “engages in the custom, commercial or contract use of a pesticide” or acts as a pesticide consultant.

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service will host the conference. Participants receive 7.5 continuing education units toward their recertification. International Society of Arboriculture credit will also be available.

Conference topics will include the control of weeds, rodents, common tree pests and insects, including bedbugs. Sessions also will cover math and calibration for applications and label reading.

A registration fee of $50 includes lunch.  A full agenda and registration options are available at www.uaf.edu/ces/ah/psep/news. For more information, contact Extension program assistant Janice Chumley at 907-262-5824 or jichumley@alaska.edu.
