Pairings set for GNAC Men's Basketball Championship

The Alaska men's basketball team will be making its first-ever trip to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Championship next week and the pairings have been officially set following the completion of the regular season on Saturday night.

The 2013 championship will take place March 7-9 in Lacey, Wash., at Marcus Pavilion on the campus of Saint Martin's University.

The Nanooks (15-11, 10-8 GNAC) earned the No. 4 seed for the tournament and will face the fifth-seeded Montana State Billings Yellowjackets (16-13, 9-9 GNAC) in the opening round on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. (PST).

The teams split the season series with Alaska taking an 80-73 win at home back on Dec. 1 and MSU Billings rallying for n 80-70 home victory on Feb. 28.

The victor will advance to the GNAC semifinals on Friday at 7:30 p.m. against the top-seeded Western Washington Vikings (26-1, 17-1 GNAC), whose only loss of the year came against Alaska on Feb. 21 in Fairbanks. The championship game will be played Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in a televised game on ROOT Sports, which is channel 36 for GCI Cable subscribers in Fairbanks.
