Staff members are a vital part of higher education. Whether it is going the extra mile to ensure students are able to log into their online class or being an advocate for student success, staff contribute to the mission in many ways every day. That’s why the University of Alaska recognizes university staff who provide outstanding service to students anywhere in the system with the Staff Make Students Count Award.

Nominate outstanding staff members for the 2021 Staff Make Students Count Award. The nomination period is open now through March 26. The nomination form and criteria are available online.

The Staff Make Students Count Award, established in the spring of 1999, recognizes university staff that provide outstanding service to students anywhere in the UA system, including campuses and extended sites. Each recipient receives an award plaque, $1,000 and two domestic airline vouchers. All nominees receive a certificate of nomination.

Up to four individuals can be awarded — one each for the University of Alaska Fairbanks, the University of Alaska Anchorage, the University of Alaska Southeast, and University of Alaska System Office — provided there are nominations from each one, and the nominations meet the criteria and deadlines.

Consider nominating a co-worker who you know goes above and beyond when helping UA students.

Applications for award must include:

  • Letter of nomination and rationale for nomination.

  • Completed nomination form.

  • At least three letters of endorsement from those knowledgeable of the contribution made by the applicant/nominee.

  • Letters from students are encouraged.

This is a tradition we greatly value as staff. Please take a minute to keep that tradition going and recognize staff who are performing with excellence.
