Nanooks open search for women's basketball coach

The Department of Athletics has opened a national search for head coach for the women’s
basketball team. Following the resignation of former Alaska Nanooks women’s basketball
head coach Cody Bench last spring, assistant coach Brett Sawyer was appointed interim
head coach.
Since taking over the program in March 2017, Sawyer led the 2017-2018 Nanooks to a
4-22 overall mark on the season and a 0-22 record in conference play. Despite going
winless in league games, Alaska still produced a program-best six selections to the
Great Northwest Athletic Conference all-academic team, while sophomore guard Lexi
Carpenter was named an all-GNAC honorable mention.
