A workshop on record keeping and taxes for miners will be offered Dec. 4 in Fairbanks and by videoconference in Anchorage, Nome and Palmer.

Fairbanks certified public accountant Paul Robinson and Emily Whiteside, of the Alaska Department of Revenue, will teach the workshop from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. in Room 421 of the UAF Community and Technical College at 604 Barnette St. Videoconference locations include Cooperative Extension offices in Palmer and Anchorage and the Northwest Campus in Nome.

The workshop will cover Internal Revenue Service record-keeping requirements, tax planning and preparation, information on obtaining a mining permit, depreciation and depletion rules, revenue recognition and inventory, and the hobby loss rule.

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service and the Community and Technical College are hosting the small business workshop. The cost is $25.
