Microsoft Office 2013 upgrade available

April 15, 2014

Cornerstone

The Office of Information Technology is making Microsoft Office 2013 available to UAF staff and faculty via Software Center, a new tool for delivering OIT-managed software.

Software Center allows you greater flexibility to install or upgrade OIT-managed software on your schedule with a more streamlined interface. Visit the OIT website to learn more about Software Center.

The update will be made available to UAF staff and faculty on Wednesday, April 9, shortly after noon. Sometime on or after this moment, Software Center on your computer will check-in with the server to see if any new software is available.

You decide when you are ready to make the change to Microsoft Office 2013. The upgrade process may take as long as 2 hours to complete. You will be able to use your computer during the upgrade; however, you will not be able to use Microsoft Office during the upgrade.

OIT recommends that you plan to upgrade at the end of the day and reboot your computer when you arrive to work the next day, or choose another time when it is convenient for you to be without Microsoft Office for up to two hours. After the upgrade, you will need to restart your computer to finish the upgrade process.

If you are a UA Statewide staff member using a Windows computer on the UA Domain, your computer will be given the option to upgrade or install Microsoft Office 2013.

To start the upgrade, open "Software Center" on your computer, select "Microsoft Office Professional 2013," and click "install."

If you don't see the upgrade, allow up to one full day from April 9 to ensure your computer has had time to check in over the network. Also, your computer must be on the UA Domain for it to receive notifications about new software. If you know your computer is on the UA Domain and has had time to check in, but you are still not seeing the available upgrade, please contact the OIT Support Center.

Please contact the OIT Support Center if you have questions or concerns. Opportunities to attend Microsoft Office 2013 training are listed on the OIT training calendar.
