Livestock seminar and judging clinics scheduled

Two livestock experts will offer a free seminar on livestock feeding, nutrition and artificial insemination June 28 at the Matanuska Experiment Farm and Extension Center in Palmer.

The seminar and discussion will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and will be led by Michael Fisher and Travis Taylor of Colorado State University Extension.

They will also offer livestock judging clinics at the farm June 29 and at the Soldotna Rodeo Grounds on June 30. In both locations, the livestock judges' training will go from 9 a.m. to noon for adults and from 1 to 2:30 p.m. for youths. The training is designed to improve livestock selection and evaluation skills and improve proficiency in the show ring.

Fisher is a county Extension director from Pueblo County who offers educational programming in livestock nutrition and management. Taylor is the county director for Lincoln County and has a background in livestock, livestock judging and the 4-H youth program.

The Matanuska Experiment Farm, operated by the University of Alaska Fairbanks, is located at 1509 S. Georgeson Drive in Palmer. The trainings are sponsored by the Western Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education program, the UAF Cooperative Extension Service and Colorado State University Extension.
