Lecture series brings the world to local families

The University of Alaska Fairbanks’ Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning will sponsor a family-friendly lecture series offering attendees insight on growing up in another culture.

The series, “Family Cultural Night,” will be held Mondays at 7 p.m. through Aug. 1 in Schaible Auditorium on the UAF campus. The series features UAF students and staff and faculty members. They will share their impressions of life in another country. Some of the countries included in the series are: India, the Czech Republic, Mexico, Micronesia, Germany, and the Phillipines.

June 13—“India: Food, Culture and Bollywood,” with Shirish Patil
June 20—“Growing up in Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic,” with Jamila Hla Shwe
June 27—“About Japan: Music, Food and Education,” with Etsuko Kimura Pederson
July 11—“The Phillipines: Landscape, Food & Celebrations,” with sisters Josie Wooding and Elena Sparrow
July 18—“An Indian in Micronesia,” with Raaj Kurapati
July 25—“Germany,” with Josef Glowa
Aug. 1—“Mexico and Panama: A Contrast in Hispanic Countries,” with Juan Goula and Ana Richards
