Guest speaker Beverly Gooden will offer a public lecture on domestic violence, "Why I Stayed," on Thursday, Oct. 3. The talk will be held in Schaible Auditorium from 7-8:30 p.m.

Gooden is a social activist and victim's rights advocate who created the viral #WhyIStayed movement. Her mission is for those who have not been impacted by domestic violence to understand the complexity and intricacies of abusive relationships. There is more than what eyes can see when it comes to survivors and all victims have their own reasons for staying in abusive relationships.

The Nanook Diversity and Action Center and Student Leadership and Involvement are hosting this event for  for Domestic Violence Awareness Month. For more information email Heidi Shepard at hgshepard@alaska.edu.
