Lecture to highlight Olympic torch at the North Pole

The University of Alaska Fairbanks will host a free public lecture,"Olympic Torch at the North Pole,” Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 5:30 p.m. in Schaible Auditorium. Parking on campus is free after 5 p.m.

Vice Chancellor Pat Pitney will give the presentation, which is part of the weekly research showcase hosted by the Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarly Activity.

Pitney, a 1984 Olympic gold medalist in air rifle, helped carry the games' 2014 torch at the North Pole. She and others traveled to the pole via Russian icebreaker in October of last year.
