UAF Summer Sessions & Lifelong Learning this week presents its final free events for the summer of 2014.
- On Wednesday, Aug. 6, during the Discover Alaska Lecture, meet Debbie Miller, author of “A King Salmon Journey," a new book about a salmon's travels up the Yukon River. The lecture begins at 7 p.m. in the Murie Building auditorium.
- Music in the Garden will feature Fairbanks’ very own Emily Anderson. Anderson is a local indie/folk singer songwriter and a recent graduate of Berklee College of Music. Emily’s music is influenced by Carole King, Ingrid Michelson and Regina Spektor. Emily's music ranges from sentimental to humorous. The show will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, in the Georgeson Botanical Gardens. Due to construction, the garden has limited parking space. Please park on West Ridge.
- The Magical Mondays program features a series of hands-on science demonstrations for kids and their families. This week, the event will offer insight into Alaska’s insects with Melissa Sikes, natural resource education specialist at Fairbanks Soil and Water Conservation District. The activities beginning at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, in 201 Reichardt Building.
- The Healthy Living Lecture on Tuesday, Aug. 12, will review “Youth Sports Concussions: Alaska Law and School Policy” with Dr. Cary Keller from Sports Medicine and Dr. Laura Brunner, from Tanana Valley Pediatrics. The lecture begins at 7 p.m. in the Murie Building auditorium.
- On Wednesday, Aug. 13, during the Discover Alaska Lecture, meet Frank Keim, writer, anthropologist and environmental activist, who will share his experiences during “Call of the Wild: Adventures in Alaska’s Arctic Wilderness" at 7 p.m. in the Murie Building auditorium.
