KUAC’s 18th annual Red Green Regatta is slated to launch Sunday, July 20, from Graehl Park in Fairbanks at 11 a.m. Event organizers are asking participants and other boaters to use additional safety precautions and to be prepared for high water levels in the Chena River this year.

KUAC encourages participants to prepare their vessels for low bridge clearances, sweepers and debris in the water. If river conditions are deemed unsafe the day of the event, judging and prize awarding will take place at Graehl Park starting at 11 a.m.

Additionally, KUAC encourages all recreational boats not participating in the event to use extreme caution when maneuvering around participants and safety boats, and if possible to avoid the section of the Chena River between Graehl Park and Pioneer Park from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 20. Safety River Rangers will be assisting participants and vessels during the Regatta. Please give their boats the right-of-way and do not throw objects from the shore or bridges because doing so could prevent rescuers from helping those in the water.

The regatta begins at Graehl Park and ends at the Pioneer Park boat ramp. The public can view the “flotilla of fun” from the Wendell, Barnette, and Cushman Street bridges, the pedestrian bridges near downtown and Pioneer Park, and along the shores of the Chena River.

Registration fee is $30 the day of the event. Each registration includes an official 2014 Red Green Regatta T-shirt. Additional T-shirts are available at the regatta or in advance for $20 each. Official rules, prize information and liability forms are available at www.kuac.org. For more information, call 907-474-7491.
