Alaska Nanooks freshman John Keeney (Twin Peaks, CA/Business Administration) has been named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Goaltender of the Week as announced Monday by the Michigan-based league.

The California native turned aside 33 shots on Friday at Ohio State in the Nanooks 1-1 tie and then followed it up with a 32-save performance on Saturday, when the Nanooks proved victorious via a 3-1 margin in Keeney's first colleigate win.

For the weekend he had a goals-against average of 0.96 and a save percentage of .970, helping the Nanooks gain four-of-six points in the weekend series and elevating them to 5-3-2 on the season and 3-2-1-0 in league games, good for second in the CCHA standings.

He helped kill 12-of-13 penalties, including two five-minute majors (one in each game), to bring the Nanooks season efficiency to 39-of-44 or 88.6 percent: 9th best in the country and second best in the CCHA.

Following the strong performance on the road in Columbus last weekend, the Nanooks garnered 36 votes (second among other teams receiving votes) in this week's USCHO.com Division I poll that ranks the top-20 teams or 22nd if the poll were extended.

Keeney and the Nanooks host the No. 9 Western Michigan Broncos this weekend at the Carlson Center. Game time both nights is 7:35 p.m. AKT.
