Karsten Hueffer appointed associate dean for Department of Veterinary Medicine

Karsten Hueffer has been named associate dean for the Department of Veterinary Medicine.

A professor of veterinary microbiology for the Department of Veterinary Medicine, Hueffer earned his doctorate from the School of Veterinary Medicine in Hannover, Germany, and Ph.D. from Cornell University in comparative biomedical science. Following a postdoctoral position at Yale University, Hueffer joined the UAF faculty, and currently serves as chair of the curriculum committee for the department. He holds a postgraduate certificate in veterinary education and has been internationally recognized for his teaching excellence.

More recently he has been working on student engagement strategies, specifically in rural Alaska.

Hueffer will be responsible for ensuring the further development of the department in its mission to improve the lives of Alaskans and their animals.
