Julie Carpenter began serving as interim director for the Kuskokwim Campus, in Bethel, effective July 4. Carpenter has been with UAF in various roles since 1995, most currently serving as the financial manager at KuC.

Carpenter is preceded by Linda Curda, who has served as the acting director since 2018.

“I am very grateful for Linda’s deep commitment and years of service to KuC," said Charlene Stern, interim vice chancellor for rural, community and Native education. "She has helped to provide stable and quality leadership during a critical time and I look forward to working with both her and Julie during this transition as we begin the search for a permanent director."

The recruitment process for a permanent director is anticipated to begin in July.

Carpenter was born in Bethel. At the age of 1, she moved with her parents and four siblings to the community of Stony River, where they lived on a homestead for 10 years. The family later moved back to Bethel so the children could continue their education.

“Bethel is home. I value and appreciate this community," Carpenter said. "The past eight years at KuC have been the most rewarding years of my career. I care deeply about the campus and hope that I can be an asset during this time of transition in leadership.”
