An international flag dedication ceremony will be held Monday, April 2, from 3-5 p.m. in the Wood Center multilevel lounge. Four speakers will present their flags and offer a short description of their home country. An ice cream social will follow the presentations.

Tajikistan's flag is the newest one to be added to UAF's collection of flags. It will be presented by Qobilijon “Kobil” Shokirov, a visiting scholar at the Institute of Arctic Biology. Three other flags will be recognized: Kenya, by Lawrence Itela, a doctoral student in environmental chemistry; Mexico, by Heidi Mendoza-Islas, a master's degree student in oceanography; and Switzerland, by Anne-Laure Perritaz, an exchange student studying anthropology.

The flag ceremony is sponsored by the International Student Organization and the offices of International Programs and Initiatives, and Diversity and Equal Opportunity. It is held annually to recognize international students and scholars and the countries they come from.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information email jgcruzan@alaska.edu.
