The UAF indoor plant program is a campuswide partnership endeavor with a threefold mission to restore the health of plants in public and areas; create an aesthetically pleasing environment; and ensure that the purpose of the area is functioning properly and without impediments or safety issues. The program offers five services for plants within public and common areas on the Fairbanks campus.

The plant program is run by Joann Stagno, who retired from UAF in 2010 but returned in 2017 on a part-time basis to help create and manage the program, which works with departments to help care for greenery in common-use areas. It's been an unexpected but welcome career for the former Facilities Services manager, who counted more than 600 plants in her initial inventory of public spaces on campus.

"People are pretty passionate about their plants," she said.
