Due to new federal regulations, the UAF Financial Aid Office has made some important changes to the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy.  All students receiving financial aid need to be made aware of the new policy.

Significant changes include:

  • The credit completion rate necessary to remain eligible is lowered from 75 percent to 67 percent.

  • All students will be evaluated for satisfactory academic progress at the end of each semester.

  • Transfer credits will count towards a student's maximum time frame for his/her degree program.

  • Some ineligible students will need an appeal and an academic plan endorsed by an advisor in order to receive financial aid.

  • A student's entire academic history must be considered when calculating satisfactory academic progress. There will be no more probation based on the most recent semester.

The new policy has been implemented for the fall 2011 semester and will affect students' financial aid eligibility for the spring 2012 semester.

You can view the entire policy on the UAF Financial Aid website forms and policies website, scroll down to Financial Aid Policies and Conditions, Satisfactory Academic Progress (PDF).
