The Interior Aleutians Campus, in partnership with the Interior Regional Housing Authority, received almost $800,000 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to make significant improvements at the Gaalee’ya Spirit Camp this year. Howard Luke, the founder and owner of Gaalee’ya Spirit Camp, encourages IAC's use of the camp for the Upward Bound program. This year students completed APAR F150—Introduction to Traditional Craft, and an emergency medical services course to earn 6 college credits.

The students also earned Construction Trades Technology credits and experience in building a storage shed on the campus site. The grant paid for new buildings, site upgrades and added alternative energy power generation systems. In addition to the July culture camp for high school students, on July 27 the public was invited to attend an open house to tour the new facilities and alternative energy systems. The open house was well attended; the Denakkaagaa elders especially liked the visit to the culture camp. Everyone was appreciative of IRHA’s work in providing the camp upgrades.
