Host families sought for exchange

Alaska families with a child aged 10-15 may host a Japanese student for four weeks this summer through the 4-H Global Citizenship program.
Host families are sought for the July 26 to Aug. 22 exchange. Exchange coordinator Jason Floyd said hosts don’t need to speak Japanese — they just need to be willing to share their lives and friendship with a young person from another country. The students arrive prepared to share Japanese culture and cook a Japanese meal. They are eager to experience daily life in Alaska and to do whatever the family normally does, he said.
There is no fee for a host family to participate. The goal of the program is to prepare Alaska youths to live and work in the global economy while making new friends.
The exchange program has existed for 40 years.
