UA President Patrick Gamble and deans of the UAA, UAF, and UAS teacher preparation programs invite you to a Listening Session on Tuesday, Sept. 25, in Anchorage to offer your thoughts and suggestions about strengthening the university's teacher preparation programs.
President Gamble, chancellors and deans of all three UA teacher preparation programs will be present. The session will be moderated by Alice Galvin, a professional facilitator.

The Listening Session will take place from 8:30 a.m. - 10 a.m. in Room 106, UAA Lee Gorsuch Commons, located along Elmore Road. Free parking will be available.

The purpose of this Listening Session is to give you the opportunity to share your ideas about teacher education topics, including the following:

  • How to recruit, retain and graduate more students in education, particularly Alaska residents

  • How to increase teacher education program access through multiple delivery methods

  • How to enhance educator preparation in special education, math and science teaching

  • How to conduct research to identify causes and solutions for Alaska's education challenges

These and other topics are addressed in the UA Teacher Education Plan (PDF).

We welcome your input. Please share this invitation with others who you think would like to attend. UA's deans of education at UAA, UAF and UAS will be listening to learn how the UA system can do a better job in the area of teacher preparation.

This Listening Session takes place just prior to a meeting of the Alaska Education Consortium. The Consortium is a new statewide education professionals working group that includes university leadership along with invited leaders in Alaska's education community. Its goal is to provide an ongoing forum to strengthen teacher preparation in the state, to provide timely information on teacher education and recruitment, and to increase the number and variety of student teacher placements. Members of the Consortium will be present at the Listening Session to hear your ideas.

We invite you to share your ideas, experiences and suggestions. For more information contact our UA education deans or Alice Galvin, meeting facilitator:
