Many people can get depressed as the days get shorter and temperatures plunge. Seasonal affective disorder, more commonly known as SAD, usually comes on during the winter, although some people are more affected by SAD in the spring.

If you find yourself experiencing symptoms of depression — feelings of hopelessness, lack of motivation, suicidal thoughts, trouble concentrating, difficulty making decisions, crying more than usual — please call the Employee Assistance Program at 866-465-8934. They will provide the name of a counselor whom you can see. Or you may choose a therapist of your own — the Student Health and Counseling Center mental health web page lists resources in the Fairbanks community.
