Bella Karr Gerlich, dean of libraries at University of Alaska Fairbanks, has been appointed by Gov. Sean Parnell to his Advisory Council on Libraries. Gerlich represents the Alaska Library Association academic libraries on the council.

The council makes recommendations for the development and evaluation of library services in Alaska and advises the governor on issues of library service to Alaskans. Recently, it published the “Library Services and Technology Act, Alaska State Plan 2013-2017.”

Gerlich has been dean of libraries at UAF since 2011 and oversees all aspects of the libraries' academic and administrative programs and services. She was honored by her doctoral alma mater, University of Pittsburgh, with the 2013 School of Information Sciences Professional Achievement Award. She has served on the American Library Association Council of Research and Statistics and was an elected member-at-large to the ALA Library Research Library Roundtable and the ALA Library Leadership and Management Association Human Resources section.
