The 2nd annual Geophysical Institute Pumpkin Carving Contest will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 30, in the Globe Room (Elvey Building, room 215) on the Fairbanks campus. Anyone can participate; there will be two categories to separate entries made by youth (ages 12 and under) and adults (13 and up). To enter bring your carved pumpkin and pay your $5 entry fee by 11:30 a.m. on the day of the contest. Judging will be done by popular vote from 12 to 2 p.m. Cash prizes (50/50 of collected fees) will be given to the first place winners in each of the two entry fields. Sign up in advance online.

The Geophysical Institute will open its doors for the trick-or-treaters of Fairbanks from 2 - 5 p.m, Wednesday, Oct. 31. GI families and friends are welcome, as well as  youth from the community to participate. Maps will be provided for trick-or-treaters to find the designated offices in the building to collect candy.

Circle K’s 1st Annual Halloween Karnival & Food Drive at the Geophysical Institute will take place from 2- 5 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 31 in the Globe Room (Elvey Building, room 215). The event will include ghoulish goodies, eerie entertainment, creepy crafts, frightening face painting, scary snapshots and more. Suggested donation is one canned food item per child. Costumes are encouraged but not required.

There will be a photographer on site to take keepsake photos of you or your child in costume in front of a spooky background. Swing by the GI Director’s Office (Elvey Building, room 601) to have photos taken. You may download the photos online for free, or order premium photo or canvas prints through Design Services.
