The UAF Cooperative Extension Service will host a certified food protection manager workshop April 3 in Palmer and Fairbanks and at videoconference sites around the state.

Sites will include Barrow, Cordova, Craig, Dillingham, Homer, Kodiak, Kotzebue and Nome. The deadline to register is March 20 so participants may receive class materials and locations beforehand.

Alaska regulations require food establishments to have at least one certified food protection manager on staff to ensure that the facility complies with food safety regulations.

Two Department of Environmental Conservation employees will co-teach the workshop from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Morgan Poloni will lead the training at Mat-Su College and Lorinda Lhotka will participate from the Tanana District Extension office in the Fairbanks Community Food Bank building.

Register online at http://bit.ly/ces-workshops. The $175 fee includes the class and a certification test. Topics will include preventing contamination and cross-contamination, monitoring the flow of foods, product time and temperature, ensuring employee hygiene, cleaning and sanitizing, and preventing and controlling pests.
