Food preservation classes offered in Palmer

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service in Palmer will offer five canning and food preservation classes beginning March 6.

Participants in a March 20 class will learn how to make pickles and sauerkraut.

The classes are Canning Fruits and Tomatoes, March 6; Canning Fish in Jars, March 13; Pickles and Sauerkraut, March 20; Canning Meat and Vegetables in Jars, March 27; and Preserve Fish in Cans, May 1.

Classes will meet from 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays, except for Canning Fish in Jars, which will run from 6 to 10 p.m. Palmer Extension agent Julie Cascio will teach all the classes in Room 208 of Kerttula Hall at the Matanuska Experiment Farm, 1509 S. Georgeson Drive.
