A university search committee has named a final candidate for the position of dean of the UAF Tanana Valley Campus, soon to be UAF Community and Technical College. The finalist, Jeffrey Cantor of Pensacola, Fla., is scheduled to visit Fairbanks later this month.

Cantor’s higher education career includes extensive experience in workforce development and technical education. He most recently served as interim vice president for academic affairs and as provost of Pensacola Junior College, which serves 26,000 students annually. He has held leadership and teaching positions at schools in Connecticut, Virginia, Florida, Maryland and New York. He also brings industry experience, having served as director of technical training for an engineering company in Virginia.

Cantor has served on various community boards, including the Vocational Rehabilitation Council of Florida. Cantor has published numerous books and articles about community college and technical education and training. He holds a doctorate in educational leadership from Florida State University.

Cantor will visit UAF June 23-26. A community forum is scheduled for Friday, June 25, from 4:30 – 6 p.m. at the Tanana Valley Campus Center, 604 Barnette St.

“We want to hear from the community as well as our faculty, staff and students about what they want in a leader,” said search committee chairwoman Cathy Winfree. “We had a large pool to select from and the search committee has done a great job in indentifying a candidate we think has what it takes. We are looking forward to the face-to-face interview and to receiving feedback on this important decision.”
