Fehrenbach, Hanneman take gold and silver on Day One at Central Region Championships

The Alaska Nanooks men's ski team took the early lead in the team standings at the NCAA Central Region Championships behind first and second place performances from freshman Michael Fehrenbach (Saint Märgen, Germany/Mechanical Engineering) and sophomore Logan Hanneman (Fairbanks, Alaska/Mechanical Engineering) on Saturday morning at the Michigan Tech Nordic ski trails.

Fehrenbach won the men's 10-kilometer classic technique race by 48.6 seconds in 30 minutes and 27.8 seconds to take the top podium spot. Hanneman crossed next in 31:16.4, while NMU's Erik Soderman rounded out the podium in third.

Alaska senior Lex Treinen (Anchorage, Alaska/Northern Studies) completed the scoring team in sixth place with a course time of 31:51.7.

Also landing a top-10 finish was sophomore Jonas Löffler (Saint Märgen, Germany/Business), crossing in 32:04.1 and ninth place. Senior Tyler Kornfield (Anchorage, Alaska/Mechanical Engineering) followed in 32:21.7 (11^th) and junior Max Olex (Aalen, Germany/Northern Studies) completed the Nanooks in the field, taking 14^th in 32:29.5.

With three of the top six finishers, Alaska is in the lead in the Central Region standings heading into Sunday's 15K mass start freestyle race. Alaska leads rival Northern Michigan 66-61, while College of Saint Scholastica is in third with 53 points.
