Hands-on programs at the University of Alaska Museum of the North during the month of February will focus on fossils.

At Family Day: Fossils on Saturday, Feb. 22, from noon to 4 p.m., visitors can see and touch real fossils, meet museum paleontologists, dig for bones and create fossil artwork. There is no admission fee for children 14 and under on Family Days, thanks to support from TOTE Maritime.

The Early Explorers program for families with children 5 and under will take place each Friday from 10 a.m. to noon. There will be no Early Explorers program on Feb. 7. On Saturday, Feb. 15, the Junior Curators program, which is open to children 6 and older, will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. These activities are included with admission and are free for museum members.

This month, the museum will offer a bonus children's program on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 1:30 p.m. at the Noel Wien Library. During this free event, participants will learn about how scientists study ancient life, listen to a story and try hands-on activities.
